2017 Ft. Worth Alliance Air Show

2017 Ft. Worth Alliance Air Show

Ft. Worth Alliance Airport

Not very much makes me happier than loud jets and great flying, preferably close overhead. It was supposed to be a big year; I planned on roadtripping to Oshkosh and Dayton, in addition to my “hometown” shows: the Gary Air Show and the Chicago Air & Water Show.

The truly excellent but small Gary show was cancelled due to a lack of funds, I had things going on during both Oshkosh and Dayton weekends, and I picked up a job in Boston for the weekend of the Air & Water Show — which had been my last planned show of the year. It was time for drastic measures. A no airshow year is not an option.

I got to work searching my remaining options for late fall air shows. Nowhere cold, nowhere boring. Bingo! The Ft. Worth Alliance Air Show. Blue Angels, Sean D. Tucker, Rob Holland. I was sold before I finished the performance list.

Thanks very much to some good friends in the area (thanks, Jay and Shelley!), what started as a ridiculous scheme ended up being an amazing weekend full of good times, great food, an unfortunate TCU football loss, and more actual cowboys than I thought existed in the world. Oh, and the airshow. Here are my favorite shots.

A quick note on this...the Beechcraft Baron is NOT an airshow plane, but was doing rolls and flying upside down with no engines on. Super cool to see.
